Eco club 2023-2024

Eco- schools green flag- We did it!!

We are so happy to announce we have been awarded the Eco-Schools green flag. We had some wonderful feedback on our efforts this year. Thank you to eco-club for their hard work and dedication to our environment.

Quote from The Eco-Schools Team:

Your hard work and dedication has inspired young people and empowered them with the belief that they can positively impact our planet – this is something incredibly special. ‘He really likes having conversations with us about the environment and is learning more each day’ was a lovely quote to read! Your greatest successes link clearly to the experience of your pupils. Students taking more of a lead in their activities and actions is a huge success, well done! This is what the best forms of climate action are about – impactful but achievable things that create a positive experience and prompt more action. We love this! Your Eco-Code is very punchy, clear and easy to digest for those that see it. It’s a direct call to action.

Here they are with the flag!

Litter picking

World Ocean's day at Plymouth Hoe 8.6.23

In Eco- Club we completed a litter pick around the school. We then did a litter pick at our local park. We are eager to make our community a cleaner and safer place to be.

Nature Friendly Schools

Miss Grant and Mrs Hanley have been completing a new project with the Devon Wildlife Trust. Miss Upton and Mrs Bailey are continuing this while Miss Grant is off.

We have spent the last year developing our farm area. We planted seeds and bulbs to grow our own food. We grew onions, lettuces, tomatoes and many more vegetables. The Prince Rock Eco group is planning on planting more vegetables this winter, ready to grow in the Spring and Summer. We hope that these can then be used when classes cook with Shane!

We made posters to encourage people to look after our world. We also wrote down ideas for how we could improve our school and local environment and how to help our community do the same.

Futures Researchers in Schools

Today, we had a fantastic session with Eve- a researcher from the University- who talked to us about plastic waste from boats in the ocean environment. We learnt about initiatives to reduce this and what we can do in our own lives to help. It was fantastic!
