"A fantastic turnout for our PSSP Primary Inclusion Football! 10 schools brought their teams along today; there were children representing Leigham, St. Matthew’s, Old Priory, Widewell, Bickleigh Down, Holy Cross, Montpelier, Prince Rock, St. Andrew’s and Cann Bridge. At this competition, we play a round-robin style event with 5 points awarded for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. This event really isn’t all about winning though as our main focus is on having fun and demonstrating some excellent sportsmanship through the School Games values of Respect and Teamwork. Once again, I was incredibly fortunate to be supported by the fantastic sports leaders from Stoke Damerel, who refereed all of our games/kept the scores and supported all of the teams – thank you all so much! It certainly was a close one today, we had so many games that finished in a draw and so many teams that finished on the same points. In the end we had to look at the number of goals scored by each team to work out the final positions. With 10 teams attending, there were 9 games each to play and then we finally got back into the warm to announce the results… Congratulations to St. Andrews who were our overall winners today – they finished on the same points as Leigham but in the end had scored just 1 more goal! Congratulations as well to Leigham for such a close finish to take second place. Full table of results below. Well done to all of the teams who took part today, I hope that you enjoyed it and would be keen to come along next term."

Seven of our Key Stage 2 children had a fantastic time on Wednesday representing our school for a Football event at one of the city's Secondary Schools. Here is a message from the event organiser:
"Even the snow on the ground and the cold conditions couldn’t keep our schools away today for our termly PSSP Primary and Special Schools Football event. 7 schools came along today: we had children representing Cann Bridge, Prince Rock, St. George’s, Thornbury, Marine Academy Primary, Beechwood and Stuart Road. There was definitely some nervous excitement amongst the teams when they first arrived as for many of the children, this was their first time representing their school. I am thrilled to say that the nerves were quickly replaced by smiles when we were underway. This is an event with a bit of a difference: the winning isn’t our main focus; instead, we focus on Teamwork, Respect and Self-belief. We play a round-robin style event so that every school gets to play all of the others. We do keep the scores and points are awarded but today is mainly about having some fun and enjoying being physically active. I am always supported at these events by a team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel and they never fail to impress me. It is thanks to these dedicated individuals that our games all run smoothly and all of the children taking part can just relax and enjoy playing. Thank you to Miss Crowe for providing the leaders once again – they really are a credit to your school. At the end of the morning, all of the results were collated and we had a certificate presentation back in the warm. Well done to everyone who took part today, you all played incredibly well and I really hope you had a lot of fun."

Intent – Why?
This event is open to primary age SEND students from mainstream and special schools. The event is aimed at giving SEND students and low ability performers an opportunity to compete but also to allow them to demonstrate teamwork, effort, respect and sportsmanship.
