Heatree Blog 2023
Day 1
The children have had a lovely first day at Heatree. To begin with, the children worked on their teamwork skills by taking part in a range of activities. It was great to see them work so well together! After that, the children worked with their colour teams on a challenging orienteering course where they were able to explore the Heatree grounds. The children were blown away by how beautiful the grounds were! In the evening, the children enjoyed a delicious dinner with a yummy dessert, took part in the Heatree quiz and played lots of fun games. They’re already looking forward to tomorrow! Day 2 Wow! The children have had another fantastic day at Heatree. They took part in the Wilderness Adventure challenge on Dartmoor, pretended to be Tarzan on the high ropes and built some incredible boats during raft building. In the evening, the children went on a night walk, took part in a dance party and enjoyed a hot chocolate before bed. They can’t wait for tomorrow! Day 3 Day 3 at Heatree and the children are still having a brilliant time. During the daytime, the children played a range of games at the archery range. They really enjoyed popping the balloons with their arrows and competing against the teachers! In addition to this, the children had a super time rock scrambling on Dartmoor where they overcame different obstacles. During the evening, the children had a wonderful time at the campfire where they sang songs, told jokes and roasted marshmallows! Before bed, the children enjoyed listening to lots of different bedtime stories.
Day 4
What a super day at Heatree! After a delicious buffet breakfast, the children got ready and headed down to tackle the Heatree Eco Warrior Challenge. Throughout the challenge, the children showed off their determination skills as well as work their teamwork skills. They soon learnt that in order to complete the challenge everyone had to play their part! Throughout the challenge, the children couldn’t stop smiling. In the afternoon, the children took part in ‘Going Global’ which is a fast-paced game that is designed to illustrate how trade can affect the prosperity of a country. In their groups, the children had to manufacture shapes using the materials provided before trading it with the other countries. They found it very interesting! After dinner, the children played games before settling down for the Heatree movie night - something they had been looking forward to all week! Thank you to all the Heatree children for a wonderful week. They have all shown determination, teamwork and resilience this week. On Monday, photos from across the week will be uploaded to our school website for you to see and enjoy.

Day 1
What a fantastic first day at Heatree! After a fun coach journey full of story sharing and sing-alongs, the children arrived at Heatree. They were amazed by how beautiful the Heatree grounds are! In the afternoon, children had a brilliant time exploring the Heatree grounds during their orienteering activity. They enjoyed getting to know their new team mates and learning new skills. In the evening, the children enjoyed a delicious pasta bake dinner followed by apple crumble before working with their friends to try and achieve the highest score in the ‘Heatree 2022 Quiz Night’. They’ve had a great time so far and are excited for the rest of the week.
Day 2
The children have had a wonderful time at Heatree. After eating a yummy breakfast, the children were keen to start their activities. One of today’s favourite activities was low adventure! It was great to see the children develop their teamwork skills as they had to work together to complete a range of challenging obstacle courses. In the afternoon, the children were pretending to be Spider-Man as they scaled up and abseiled down the climbing towers. We are so proud of how all the children challenged themselves during the activities today. In the evening, the children had a brilliant time on the night walk as they thought it was magical! As we walked through the grounds of Heatree, the children had fun searching for the glow sticks which lit up the trail for us. During our walk, we were able to set up a base camp and play games which the children loved.
Day 3
The children have had another fun filled day at Heatree. During the morning, the children had a great time learning how to shoot with a bow and arrow at the archery range. They loved trying to hit the bullseye and they were so excited when they got to pop balloons on the targets. After lunch, the children made their way down to the Heatree lakes where they built their own rafts. During the activity, the children put their teamwork skills to the test to build the best raft possible. Once the raft was built, they hopped on to test it out. Because they had made their rafts so well, they all stayed afloat! This meant they were then able to play games and race each other on the lake. At the end of the activity, the children couldn’t wait to jump in! They were soaked but couldn’t stop smiling. After such an exciting day, the children had a lovely time during movie night.
Day 4
Day 4 was another fantastic day at Heatree. After a delicious buffet breakfast, the children got ready and headed off for their wilderness adventure day! The children went on an adventure into the Dartmoor wilderness, walking directly from the Centre onto the local moors. The day’s activities included refining their map reading skills, flora and fauna identification, foraging for wild food and letterboxing (combining orienteering with treasure hunting and puzzle solving to find boxes left by others across Dartmoor). Over the course of the day, the children were excited to find local and historical landmarks along the way, including the prehistoric settlement of Grimspound, Bowerman’s Nose, Jay’s Grave and the RAF stone. In addition to this, the children got to try out ‘wheasling’ which involved the children scrambling over and under rocks and going through tight squeezes. In the evening, the children had a brilliant time at the nighttime campfire in the Roundhouse. At the campfire, children sang songs, told jokes and shared their favourite memories of the week. After that, they then roasted marshmallows on the open fire which they thought was amazing!
