Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel 2023
Prince Rock are taking part in Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel 2023. It is the UK’s largest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge. It inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality in their neighbourhood and discover how these changes benefit their world.
It’s more important now than ever to travel actively. Active travel is a great way to build physical activity into children’s daily routine. It helps them arrive to school more relaxed and alert, and is great for their mental wellbeing too. This year the challenge will run from 20–31 March 2023. It is free and easy to take part in Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel.
On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. A school’s best five days will determine their final position and schools at the top of their leaderboards will receive an exclusive Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel certificate.
All schools will be entered into daily prize draws for rewards if over 15% of your school takes part on each day of the challenge. Prizes up for grabs include accessories and equipment to help your school travel actively.
Sustrans ‘Big Pedal’ 2022
Get set… We’re taking part in Sustrans ‘Big Pedal’ 2022 (now called ‘Big Walk and Wheel’), the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking, wheeling and scooting challenge. The challenge runs from Monday 21st March to Friday 1st April. It’s free to take part and we would love everyone to be involved.
What do you need to do?
Please encourage your child(ren) to take active journeys to school on as many days as possible during the event, and join them on their way. This includes walking, scooting and cycling.
Why are we taking part? Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel is a great way to get children active, which is important for physical health and mental wellbeing. Active school runs also help to reduce congestion and air pollution outside the school gate, as well as improving bad parking! There are some great prizes to be won every day if we get enough children taking part. Cycle, walk, scoot and snap to win family prizes You and your family can win prizes during Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel. Simply post a photo of you and your child(ren) cycling, walking, wheeling or scooting to school on social media during the challenge.
