Friday 28th May 2021

Good morning, 6B.

Today is our final day of home learning as next week is half term.

We have two live sessions. The first is at 9:30am where I will talk you through the morning lessons and give you any information you need to complete these tasks. The sessions will be recorded so you can re-watch it if you need to. The second session will be at 1:15pm. We will review the morning learning and I will explain the afternoon learning, too.

I will see you then.

Mrs Benson 😊

Morning Activities

Maths

Sealed solutions. I will talk through this problem with you in the Live session, but we are going to continue with our ideas of working systematically. I want you to apply what you learned yesterday to solve another problem. There is a PowerPoint you can use to guide you through the problem.

English

We are going to revise used the active and passive voice.

Active Voice

In an active sentence, the subject performs the action (the verb) to the object.

Passive Voice

In a passive sentence, the thing that would normally be the object gets turned into the subject through the use of the passive form of the verb. They often include a prepositional phrase starting with ‘by’.

You will need to watch the PowerPoint and then complete the task on a separate piece of paper.

Reading

We have another poem linked to our biomes learning about rainforests. We will read the text together during the Live session and then you will need to complete some questions about it.

Afternoon Activities

Art

You will start by practising sketching techniques which you can find on the PowerPoint. I will talk you through this in the Live Session.

Then you need to create a drawing of a biome of your choice. Choose one of the biomes we have learned about or the one you created yesterday. Draw a visual representation of that biome.

Make sure you include all of the following:

  • The climate
  • The plants and vegetation
  • Animals that live in that biome.

You can use any media you have at home. A simple pencil drawing is fine but you can use coloured pencils, pens or even paint if you have it and your adult says it’s OK.

I have saved a template for you to use or you can get a piece of paper and draw around a plate.

And then it’s HALF TERM! Have a safe one 😊

Thursday 27th May 2021

Good morning, 6B.

We have two days of home learning and then it will be half term. Here is the plan for Thursday 27th May.

The sessions will be recorded so you can re-watch it if you need to. The second session will be at 1:15pm. We will review the morning learning and I will explain the afternoon learning, too.

Morning Activities

Maths

Buying a Balloon Task

Today’s learning introduces you to the concept of working systematically. We all need to practise this and it’s a good skill for you to have. I will introduce this in the Live session, but you can watch the PowerPoint to make a start.

English

We need to revisit the rules for inverted commas. There is a PowerPoint for you all to watch which will talk you through each step of how to punctuate direct speech. You will then need to apply this to a task where you will punctuate direct speech sentences and within a passage.

Reading

You need to read the poem ‘A Trillion Tropical Leaves’. I will read this to you in the Live session, too. There are questions for you to answer about this text. Think carefully about all of your VIPERSS skills to help you to answer these questions.

Geography

“Biome in a bottle”

We have been learning about biomes as part of our geography unit of learning. Biomes are regions of the world with similar climate (weather, temperature), animals and plants. There are terrestrial biomes (land) and aquatic biomes, both freshwater and marine. We have been learning about terrestrial biomes of which there are six in the world – tundra, deserts, woodlands, grasslands, savannah and rainforests.

Today you need to design your own biome based on what you have learnt so far. Questions you will need to consider:

  • Climate
    • Is it hot, cold or both?
    • What is the rainfall in a year?
    • Does your biome have seasons like a temperate climate, or does it have the same weather all year round?
  • Animals
    • What animals live in your biome?
    • How are they adapted to living in the climate?
  • Plants
    • What plants live in your biome?
    • How are they adapted to living in the climate?
