English
In today’s lesson, you are going to be publishing your non-chronological report about the anlgerfish. You have already created brilliant reports; you do not need to change what you have written (unless you have spotted a mistake). In this lesson, I am looking for beautiful, joined handwriting, consistent letter size and correct use of all the punctuation you need. Have a look at our handwriting poster below to help you.

You have two options in today’s lesson:

  1. You can either choose one part of your non-chronological report to write up. Perhaps the opening paragraph and one of the main paragraphs.
  2. Or, you can choose to write up every part of the report; the opening, diet, appearance, habitat and closing paragraph.

We are giving you this option, as we know lots of you have completed this writing on Microsoft Teams and so it might be tricky to load many different documents at once. However, we know lots of you enjoy publishing your writing so we will be impressed if you write it all up neatly.

If you can, try you write out your non-chronological report onto lined paper. If you have plain paper at home, ask an adult to draw lines on it. Alternatively, on the website, I have uploaded lined paper that can be printed off for you to write on.

Mrs Dore and Mrs Bennett will be choosing two handwriting champions from each class in tomorrow’s morning live session. You can do it, Year 4!

In this lesson today, I would like to know what you ALREADY know about sound. I don’t want you to research anything! At 1:15pm, log in to Microsoft Teams and accept the invitation to video call. During this video call, we will review our learning from the morning and go through some answers. It is important that you virtually attend this so that we can answer any questions you may have.

Science

In Science, we have been exploring ‘animals including humans.’ We have learnt all about the human digestive system and the function of the different parts in our bodies. We have explored teeth in more detail and acknowledged how to keep them healthy. We have started to think about how animals with different diets have different types of teeth. Lastly, we explored food chains and a range of big questions linked to the natural word.

In today’s lesson, you are going to answer a quiz all about what you have learnt in this unit. The quiz is multiple choice so please choose the correct answer. If you are on Microsoft Teams, please access the quiz and then submit your answers. If you are using the website, please access the document ‘Science – Animal including Humans end of unit quiz’ and record your answers on a piece of paper. Please email us your answers and score. Please look at the answer sheet, once you have finished.

Then, you are going to create a fact file poster about a topic of your choice. Using what you have learnt and researching facts with an adult, can you find out more about one of these topics:

  1. The human digestive system. (perhaps finding out what impacts the human digestive system)
  2. Animals with different types of teeth (perhaps research a carnivore and a herbivore of your choice and then compare their teeth)
  3. Food chains in a particular area (perhaps research food chains in the desert and food chains in the Antarctic and compare them).

Here are some examples of excellent fact file posters. I would like to see a BIG title, a range of facts, drawings, did you know questions and many bright colours. Please send your finished posters to our email address; we would love to share examples during our live session on Friday morning!

PSHE

Our Jigsaw focus this term is ‘Dreams and Goals’. Click on the document entitled ‘Jigsaw – Piece 6’. This week you will be creating your Funny Potato Person! In our last lesson we introduced the person profile which gave you some subheadings to focus on such as their name, their address and their hobbies. Now, it is your turn to draw and create it.

We will be having a short PSHE lesson in the afternoon session today, which will give you, some ‘calm me’ time and go through this a bit more. Remember to keep your drawings or creations so we can show and tell them tomorrow morning!

SLT Assembly

Please open the PowerPoint entitled ‘Mrs Benson’s assembly’. This week is a special topic that is close to our hearts and is linked to a special day that is coming up at the weekend. You need to view it in ‘slideshow mode’ to hear Mrs Benson talking through each slide.

Reading and Quizzing

Please spend the next 10-15 minutes reading your REN/coloured book. When you have finished reading your REN book, please take a quiz. The link to REN quizzing is on the school website. Or, if you have a coloured book, see if can recall the text to an adult. You can swap your book once you have finished reading it. Please ring the school office to organise this.

Once you have finished this, open the document entitled ‘WCR- Wildlife – Vocabulary Worksheet.’ Here you will need to find the tasks linked to the vocabulary we explored in the lesson.

Maths

Fluent in 5: N/A today.

Main Task:

This week, we will be starting our new unit of Multiplication and Division. Today our focus will be the 11 and 12 times tables. First, watch this video, which will show you the methods we use and how it is applied to questions.

https://vimeo.com/490692507

Once you have watched the video, please click on ‘Maths- 11 and 12 times tables Please answer the questions on the word document pages saying ‘Maths- Multiply by 10- Answers’, by typing the number of the question followed by your answer.

For example,

  1. 25

The answers are also available for you; however, please do not look at these until you have finished your task sheet. It may help you to have some paper nearby for any workings out. Are there any times tables that you already know that you can use to help you with your 12 times tables if you are stuck?

Extra challenges:

If you have sped through your maths today, there are some extra challenges for you to complete. Please open the document entitled ‘Monday’s Maths Challenges’. Please complete these on the sheet (you can type anywhere and just write the number of the question next to it) or you could take a picture of your work on paper and send it to year4staff@princerock.co.uk.

Live Microsoft Teams Meeting

At 1:15pm, log in to Microsoft Teams and accept the invitation to video call. During this video call, we will review our learning from the morning and go through some answers. It is important that you virtually attend this so that we can answer any questions you may have.

Spellings

Please open the document ‘Spellings – Week 5’. These are your spellings for this week. Please complete the suggested activities to help learn them. In tomorrow’s session, you will recap these spellings and then ask an adult or older sibling to test you.

History
Our new topic for history this term is Ancient Greece. We are going to learn all about when this time period was, significant events and people and the legacy it still has today. Last week, you explored the different Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses. Before you start today’s lesson, you need to complete a retrieval practise about your learning from last week. You can find it at the top of the work sheet entitled ‘History – Worksheet 4.’

Today, you are going to explore the Ancient Olympics that began during the Greek era. You are going to find out all about the Ancient Olympics and compare it to modern day Olympics. What is the same? What is different? Then, you are going to think critically about the legacy of the Ancient Greek Olympics.

Please open the document ‘History – Lesson 4’. You need to read each of the slides/pages as if we were in school and then have a think about the key questions. For the tasks, you need to open the document ‘History – Lesson 4 - Worksheet’. There is a challenge question at the end for you to complete as well.
