Heatree Blog

Year 5 & 6 have had a brilliant start to their residential at Heatree. Yesterday, they enjoyed taking part in a range of team building activities during Tamakele Island where they had to solve riddles, puzzles and take part in a range of physical activities. It was great to see the children working together and showing such fantastic team building skills so early on in the week. In the evening, the children were very excited to take part in a quiz night where the winners got to choose their own prizes. Today, the children are really looking forward to taking part in the high ropes and low adventure obstacle courses. They can’t wait to challenge themselves!

Although Year 5 & 6 have been very busy at Heatree, they’ve had a blast so far! On Tuesday morning, the children had a great time challenging themselves on the high ropes course. It was wonderful to see the children encouraging their teammates. In the afternoon, it was time for the low adventure course - which the children thought was brilliant as it was very muddy and wet! They loved completing the course where they had to climb and crawl through a range of obstacles. In the evening, the children were so excited as they got to enjoy a games and movie night. They said that it was “AMAZING!”

On Wednesday morning, the children were up bright and early! They couldn’t wait to start the day. The first activity of the day was raft building. The children showed super team work skills to plan, build and then use their rafts on the pond. After drying off and a nice hot shower, the children enjoyed a picnic lunch and got ready for the afternoon. It was lovely to see that they were chatting so much about their activities so far and what they were looking forward to. In the afternoon, the children took part in rock climbing and abseiling. Their favourite part was pretending they were super spies or Spider-Man whilst climbing down the towers! Despite the rain, the children loved exploring the Heatree grounds on the night walk. It was so lovely to see their faces light up when they saw the pathway was lit up by glow sticks - the children said it was magical!

Yesterday was another awesome day at Heatree for Year 5 & 6. The day started with the children doing their best Robin Hood impression at the archery range. They played a range of individual and team games. Their favourite game was seeing how many balloons they could pop with their arrows! In the afternoon, the children travelled to Hound Tor on Dartmoor where they got to take part in rock scrambling. Although lots of children hadn’t taken part in this activity before, it soon became one of their favourites. In the evening, the children had a special campfire where they sang songs, played games and toasted marshmallows - it was incredible!

Today, the children are looking forward to orienteering with their team mates where they will be finding a range of clues around the Heatree grounds. Despite having a busy and tiring week, the children don’t want to leave as they’ve had so much fun. They can’t wait to tell you all about the fun they’ve had, the memories they’ve made and the new skills they’ve learnt.
