Goals Football Festival - 20.09.17
A huge well done to all our children who participated in the recent Goals Football Tournament.
Here is a write up of the review from Claire Crowther the organiser of this great event:
Wednesday 20th September 2017 – Our first Primary & Special Schools Football festival of the new school year at Goals. It was great to see so many familiar faces back today as well as some new comers to this event. We had teams from Oreston, The Cathedral School, Cann Bridge, Montpelier, Prince Rock, Knowle, Riverside and St. Peters RC all come along with their teams to take part in our friendly yet competitive event. The scoring for this event is worked out on a points system with 5 points being allocated for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. Although this is a competitive event this isn’t our main focus – our aim here is to celebrate some of the School Games values; we encourage children from all of the teams to play with Respect, Determination, Friendship and Team Work. With this in mind we celebrate these fantastic qualities by asking each member of staff to nominate one person from each of their teams to receive a very special medal for displays of these outstanding qualities. This is always such an unenviable task as all of the young people behave with impeccable sportsmanship and manners throughout. Congratulations if you were the lucky recipient of this award today – you must have really impressed your teachers! After sitting down to work out the overall results, I soon saw that this wasn’t going to be as straight forward as first thought; the teams were so evenly matched today that we had 3 teams tied on 23 points and 2 teams tied on 11 points. To be able to complete the winners table I needed to also calculate the number of goals scored by each team over the course of the morning but I got there in the end. A huge congratulation to Riverside Primary who were our overall winners today and to Knowle Primary who were a very close second. Well done to everyone who took part today – no matter where your team finished you should be proud of what you achieved as there was some excellent Football being played today. Full table of results below. I am incredibly fortunate with these events to have along with me some young leaders from Stoke Damerel Community College; these students volunteer their time and come down to lead warm-ups, referee and score the games and generally help to make sure that the younger children have a great time. Thank you all so much for all your help today – it was another great event because of you – thank you Mr. Thomas for organising them for me. Well done to everyone who took part today – I am already looking forward to our next one on Wednesday 08th November 2017.
Miss Crowther (PE Specialist Teacher PSSP).
